Robert Friesen

Not so long ago I was a hog and turkey farmer at Wawanesa, Manitoba, facing my own profitability challenges, knowing that “the market price was the market price” and recognizing that the only way to improve my profit was by reducing my input costs.

At the beginning of what was a 31 year farming career I also attended university, but after a rather eclectic several years of marketing, economics, and sociology courses, decided to turn my attention to agricultural politics. In that arena I had the privilege of being Chair of Manitoba Turkey, Chair of Turkey Farmers of Canada, President of the Canadian Federation of Agriculture, Vice President of the International Federation of Agriculture, and on the board of the Manitoba Agriculture Credit Corporation.
